Rare (Low R.5.) S-14 1793 Liberty Cap Cent

1793 1C Liberty Cap Cent XF40 Light "Ruffness" SEGS (VF30 Porous). S-14, Low R.5. The early, heavy, bisecting die crack that is evident on the obverse of this coin probably explains the rarity of S-14; few coins were produced before the Mint discarded the die. This coin offers considerable remaining definition over the major features, although we note that the reverse is sharper overall. The richly toned, mahogany-brown surfaces are rough from porosity, but we can find only a single mentionable abrasion in the left obverse field. Noyes' Condition Census for this variety reads: 50, 40, 40, 35, 35, 35, 30, 30.
