    Description

1799 $1 Silver Dollar XF45 PCI. B-8, BB-165, R.3. Intermediate Die State I-II. In this die marriage the N in UNITED appears to have initially been cut into the die upside down and later corrected. Remnants of the first N can be seen to the lower right of the end. The obverse die shows Liberty with an open mouth. A die flaw, diagnostic for this obverse, can be seen between star 9 and the rim. The coin is toned an even, medium gray on both sides, with traces of luster. There is a tiny rim disturbance above LI of LIBERTY. Scattered contact marks are well hidden by the toning. There is a series of reverse adjustment marks, primarily seen in the stars and clouds and a tiny planchet flaw is located inside the rim, by the U in UNITED.
    From the Michael Hering Collection.
