    Description

    Extremely Rare 1835 Proof Quarter

1835 25C Quarter PR63 SEGS (PR62 Artificial Toning). B-7, High R.7 as a proof, R.2 as a business strike. No period after the C. Iridescent gold and violet patina. A razor sharp specimen that has a few minor contact marks in the obverse field. The obverse rim has a minor abrasion at 8 o'clock. There is virtually no cartwheel luster, but the mirrored fields are flashy. Proof 1835 Quarters are extremely rare. The Eliasberg and Pittman sales each had a Browning-7 example, but these are the only two coins to appear at auction in recent years. The Eliasberg proof was recycled into the Bowers and Merena Jan. 1999 sale. This is the first appearance of a proof 1835 Quarter in a Heritage auction. (NGC ID# 27HE, PCGS# 5383)
