    Proof 1845 Seated Dollar

1845 $1 Seated Dollar PR 60 SEGS. Doubled Date. Reverse Chip on Right Leg of Last A. The diagnostics listed on the insert confirm that this example was struck from the reverse die that the Philadelphia Mint used to produce most, if not all of the 1840-1850 proof Seated dollars. In addition, the date has been double punched, evidence of which is clearly discernible on the 8. Both sides display broad rims and uncommonly well defined features for the series. There is a curious blanket of charcoal-gold toning over the lightly marked surfaces. One of the rarer 1840s proof Seated dollars and more elusive than the already rare 1844 and 1846.
