    1783 Chalmers Shilling

1783 J. Chalmers Shilling VF 20 Repaired SEGS. Short Worm. A popular Colonial piece for several reasons. It was domestically struck (in Annapolis, Maryland), was made out of silver (many are copper), and the date is accurately represented (some are without dates or are pre-dated). The planchet on this specimen appears a bit wavy and has deep charcoal-gray patina about the peripheral devices. Some reverse tooling is perhaps evidence that this piece was once used as a button or jewelry item. Listed on page 30 of the 1999 Guide Book.
