    Fairbanks & Co. Coin Scale Patented in 1879

    Coin Scale from Fairbanks & Co. This is an attractive Very Fine example that displays bent corners on the brass plate, chipped paint on the black base, and scattered areas of rust. From top to bottom, the plate of the scale carries slots for the following denominations: 1 dollar gold; 2 1/2 dollars; 3 dollars; 5 dollars; 10 dollars; 20 dollars; 1 silver dollar; 50 cents; 25 cents; and 10 cents. The brass arm carries two counterweights that can be slid back and forth to specify the desired weight. The patent on the arm is dated June 3, 1879.
