    Description

Gates Rubber Silver Dollar Award. An interesting and unusual prize that was given out in the 1950s or early '60s. A letter that is attached explains that the recipient of the five silver dollar prize was a mechanic who "obviously knows the secret of spotting worn fan belts." Apparently the Gates Mystery Man and his Mystery Car were properly serviced by the award winner and he was sent these dollars. The coins themselves are common date Peace dollars, Fine-XF. They are heavily toned on the obverse and glued to the cardboard holder on the reverse.
