Coins & Tokens 57 Item Group, Nine coins of Algiers include a choice ( likely never circulated) KM 67 1/4 Budju of AH1244 as well as others in more typical grade dated AH1237, 1238 and 1245. Their smaller brother KM 74 1/8 Budju of AH1239 is EF with another dated AH 1237 in Fine. KM 85 5-Asper AH1254 is AVF, while an AH1223 of generally similar style to this overall series is VF but remains unattributed. Final coin shows O-R-A-N as an 8 Maravedis circa 1620 during Spanish occupation. 48 tokens or similar trading vehicles are also included. Perhaps most intriguing are two "brothel tokens". The first, with a prominent visage of a whiskered cat, likely different than those working within the advertised "cat house", is most unusual and appealing. A similar example, in similar VF with traces of handling, fetched about $300 in the recent Baldwin sale where it was indicated to be "very rare". The second piece, from a competing establishment named The Arthemis, features a moon and a star plus the offer of discourse in either English or German, but without French being standard. Dana must have been intrigued as it is indicated as "very scarce" with a valuation of $75 long prior to recent inflation. The third non-coin is a 37mm Masonic medal from Oran. The next is of an Oranian Cafe, declared as one of the greats of this universe, which sponsored this unusual 15-sided token. Casino chips for 5 and 20 units, probably post WW2, might have been wagered by the same individuals. Finally are 42 pieces of the various notgeld styles, many issued 1915 - 1922 with some dated. Quality is typical for the various items and attributions are approximate; Sold as is, NO Return.
