Description

Roman. Ca. 100 BC - AD 200. Bronze simpulum (ritualistic ladle). Reportedly found in Israel, this rare bronze ladle is 6" (14.5 cm) in length and has a characteristic bowl with two raised projections and a long, looped handle with two looped projections and terminating in a stylized duck or goose's head. Intact and complete, with an untouched green-earthen patina. With a custom mirrored display base.

From the Rose Kujawa Collection. Purchased January 15, 1985 from Antiquarium Ltd. of New York City, with accompanying invoice and Certificate of Authenticity (identifying the piece as an early Iron-age ladle from circa 1350-1150 BC).
