    Diocletian (AD 284-305). AV aureus (21mm, 5.45 gm, 6h). NGC MS 5/5 - 3/5. Cyzicus, AD 286-287. IMP C C VAL DIOCLETIANVS AVG, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Diocletian right, seen from behind /FATIS VICTRI-CIBVS, the three Fates (Clotho, Lachesis and Atropos), the left standing right, the center and right standing facing, heads turned left, each holding a cornucopia, the left and center jointly holding a rudder and the right with right hand on another rudder; SC in exergue. RIC V.II 294. Cohen 58. Biaggi 1704. Calic├│ 4449. Depeyrot 5/5. Very Rare. Crisply struck and fully lustrous.

    From the Morris Collection. Ex 'Collection of a European Scholar lately Deceased' (LHS Numismatik, Auction 97, 10 May 2006), lot 84.

    The reverse legend translating to destiny being determined "to the victorious Fates".
