HΛDRIANVS AVG COS III P P, bare head of Hadrian right / AFRICA, Africa, draped, wearing elephant-skin headdress, reclining left, placing right hand on neck of lion standing left, resting left arm on basket; grain ears behind. RIC II --, cf. 298g (head left). Calicó 1197 (same dies). Rare variety, with an exceptionally fine portrait of the "restless emperor" whose travels defined his reign. NGC Choice XF 5/5 - 4/5, Fine Style.
