Alexius I Comnenus (1081-1118). AR histamenon nomisma (29mm, 4.12 gm, 6h). Constantinople, pre-reform coinage, 1081-1092. Barred IC - XC, half-length bust Christ Pantocrator, with cruciform nimbus, two pellets in each arm of cross, holding Book of Gospels cradled in left arm / +AΛEXIΩ ΔEC - ΠOT, crowned facing bust of Alexius, wearing divitision and chlamys, holding cruciform scepter with floral ornaments in right hand and globus cruciger in left. Sear 1894. DO 3. Obverse struck from worn die. NGC (photo-certificate) VF 3/5 - 1/5, repaired.From The Andre Constantine Dimitriadis Collection. Ex Stack's (New York, December 1993), lot 2039.
