    Description

Romanus IV. 1068-1071. AV histamenon (28 mm, 4.39 g). Constantinople. Michael, Constantius and Andronicus standing facing; dotted exergual band below, N in exergue / Christ standing facing on footstool, crowning Romanus and Eudocia. DOC 2 var. (no N); SB 1861 var. (same). Good VF. It is unclear whether the mark in the exergue is the letter N or some sort of die break, although it appears to be the former. If so, it is probably a unique variety in the Byzantine series.
    From the Geneva Collection.
