BRITAIN. Catuvellauni. Tasciovanus (Ca. 25 BC-AD 10). AV stater (18mm, 5.50 gm, 1h). NGC Choice VF 4/5 - 3/5, brushed. Trinovantian N, ca. 20-15 BC. Two crossed open wreaths with opposed crescents and three pellets in center; pellet in annulet on each arm / T-A-S-C, horseman galloping right, carnyx in raised right hand; wheel motifs around. Tasciovanus had a long and eventful reign as one of the most powerful Celtic kings of Britain. His coinage was one of the largest and most sophisticated of the era. Long thought to be a Trinovantan king, he is now accepted as a ruler of the Catuvellauni who also held sway over the neighboring Trinovantes.
