MACEDONIAN KINGDOM. Alexander III the Great (336-323 BC). AR tetradrachm (27mm, 7h). NGC VG. Posthumous issue, Ake or Tyre, uncertain regnal year of Azemilkos. Head of Heracles right, wearing lion skin headdress, paws tied before neck / ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ, Zeus seated left on backless throne, right leg drawn back, feet on stool, eagle in outstretched right hand, grounded scepter in left; ЧO (Phoenician for Azemilkos) in left field. Cf. Price 3250-3302 (Ake) for series type. Date uncertain as the numeral marks are obscured.Auction Info
