Description

Macedonian Kingdom. Alexander III 'the Great'. 336-323 B.C. AV stater (17 mm, 2 h). Uncertain Greece or Macedonia, ca. 325-310 B.C. Head of Athena right, wearing Corinthian helmet / Nike standing left, holding wreath and stylis; crab in left field; Monogram beneath wing. Cf. Price 790 (no monogram). XF45 ICG.

Apparently a new variant of an uncertain Greek or Macedonian stater known to Price without monogram. It was apparently struck to pay soldiers returning from Alexander's eastern campaigns or by Antipater to support his conflict with the Greek cities during the Lamian War.
