Seleukid Kingdom. Seleukos I. 312-281 B.C. AV stater (17 mm, 2 h). Babylon I "Imperial Workshop", ca. 311-300 B.C. Head of Athena right, wearing Corinthian helmet / Nike standing left, holding wreath and stylis; monograms in left field and beneath wing. SC 81.3; Price 3749. XF45 ICG.

An interesting early gold issue of Seleukos I struck at Babylon before the foundation of Seleukeia on the Tigris ended Babylonian coin production. Seleukos was well beloved by his Babylonian subjects whom he treated with respect. They reportedly recognized him as king well before he dared to claim the Greek title of king for himself.
