    Description

    First Fractional Denomination

Uncertain mint. Ca. 670-660 BC. EL hemistater (7.13 gm). Field of striated lines, resembling ripples on water / Triple incuse punch, with narrow rectangular punch arranged vertically between two roughly square ones. Linzalone, "Electrum" 1024 (this coin). Cf. Weidauer 5 (trite). Extremely rare, one of only five known examples. Extremely fine.

The striated hemistater, the half-denomination to the previous lot, is even rarer than the full stater, with only five known examples. It could thus be considered the first fractional denomination.
