Judaea. Bar Kochba Revolt. 132-135 C.E. AR zuz (17 mm, 3.03 g, 12 h). Year 1 (132/3 C.E.). One-handled amphora; Palm branch to right; Paleo-Hebrew inscription "Year one of the redemption of Israel" / Paleo-Hebrew inscription "Shimon prince of Israel" within wreath. Mildenberg 7 (O4/R5); TJC 220; AJC II 17; Hendin 685. EF, light deposits. Very rare.

A rare early issue of the Bar Kochba Revolt naming Simon bar Kochba as the leader of the rebellion. The amphora type looks back to the bronze iconography of the First Jewish Revolt.
