Antoninus Pius. A.D. 138-161. AE sestertius (33 mm, 30.63 g). Rome, ca. A.D. 141-143. Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right, the laurel-wreath interspersed with grain-ears / Salus standing left, feeding from patera serpent coiled about altar and holding sceptre. Cf. RIC 635 (plain wreath). XF, Tiber patina, minor porosity. A quite remarkable and majestic portrait.Auction Info
