Augustus. 27 B.C.-A.D. 14. AR denarius (19 mm, 3.64 g). Emerita, 19-18 B.C. Head right, wearing oak wreath / Comet with eight rays and tail. RIC 37a; BMC 323; RSC 98. Toned Fine, bankers' marks on obverse. The comet depicted on the reverse of this coin appeared in daylight during July 44 B.C. and was thought to be the deified Julius Caesar ascending into the heavens.Auction Info
