    Description

    Standards Returned

Domitian as Caesar (AD 69-81). AV aureus (7.18 gm). Rome, under Vespasian, AD 77/8. DOMITIANVS CAESAR AVG F, laureate head of Domitian right / COS V, Parthian captive kneeling right, presenting Roman signa. RIC (Vespasian) 240. Calico 819. Good very fine.

    From the Rubicon Collection.

The reverse type of this Flavian issue is copied from the coinage of Augustus (RIC 288). It reflects the dynasty's policy of promoting the cult of the first emperor and also subtly alludes to Vespasian's victories in the East.

Had we endeavored to sell it without your support, it would have taken us at least 10 lifetimes, i.e. it would have been impossible.
