Description
Longstanding Pedigree
Galba (AD 68-69). AE sestertius (33mm, 26.52 gm, 7h). Choice VF,
altered surfaces. IMP SER GALBA C-AES AVG TR P, laureate,
draped bust of Galba right / RO-MA, Roma standing facing, helmeted
head left, in military attire, with Victory standing right in
outstretched right hand, grounded spear in left; S-C across fields.
RIC I 358. A handsome piece with a pleasing even umber toning and
distinguished pedigree. Evidence of altered surfaces, thus
ineligible for encapsulation.Ex Classical Numismatic Group, Auction 115 (16 September 2020), lot 631; Dix Noonan Webb 139 (15 February 2017), lot 33; Baldwin, private sale with old dealer's tag included (2 March 1937).
