    Julian II, the Philosopher (AD 360-363). AR siliqua (2.02 gm). Ares, AD 360/1. Pearl-diademed, draped, and cuirassed beardless bust of Julian right / VOTIS V MVLTIS X in four lines within wreath; TCON. RIC VIII 295. RSC 161†. Slight flan crack, otherwise nicely toned Choice VF.

    This was the first silver coin struck during Julian's successful revolt against Constantius II; die engravers at the Arles mint were not yet acquainted with his "philosopher's beard."
