Nero Claudius Drusus was the well-loved stepson of Augustus and the brother of Tiberius. Augustus groomed him for the succession, allowing him to hold offices before the minimum age and serving in the army. He governed Gaul in 13 BC and became famous for his offensives against invading Germanic tribes. For his exploits he was given the title of Germanicus. He died on campaign in 9 BC after a fall from his horse.
