    Theodosius II, Eastern Roman Emperor (AD 402-450). AV solidus (4.48 gm). NGC MS 5/5 - 4/5, slight bend. Constantinople, 8th officina, ca. AD 430-440. Pearl-diademed, helmeted, and cuirassed bust facing slightly right, holding spear over shoulder in right hand and shield decorated with motif of horseman spearing fallen soldier / Constantinopolis enthroned left, with left foot on prow, holding globus cruciger in right hand, scepter in left; star to right; H//CONOB. RIC 257. Depeyrot 81/1. Deeply struck and lustrous, minor reverse scratch in upper field.
