Ex Gussage All Saints Dorset Hoard (Spink London, 26 September 2012), lot 405.

The Gussage All Saints Hoard was found by a British metal detectorist on March 21, 2010 in a ploughed field in the county of Dorset, England. It consisted of 662 Late Roman silver coins, dating AD 360-400, packed into a small pottery vessel. Only nine of the coins were miliarenses, a comparatively rare larger denomination; the rest were the standard Roman silver denomination of the era, the siliqua. The hoard was declared Treasure Trove under the United Kingdom's Treasure Act and was taken to the British Museum, which acquired one coin for its collection and turned the rest back over to the finder. Obtaining a coin from this find thus represents a rare opportunity to acquire an ancient coin that can be traced "back to the ground" where it was originally buried 16 centuries ago.
