DescriptionConstantine I the Great, as Caesar (AD 306-309). AE follis (26mm, 10.55 gm, 6h). VF. Ticinum, 1st officina, summer AD 306. CONSTANTINVS NOB CAES, laureate, cuirassed bust right / VIRTVS AV - GG ET CAESS NN, Mars advancing right, holding spear and round shield; ST in exergue. cf. RIC VI 63b. RIC lists this type only struck with laureate head, but this example is clearly a cuirassed bust. Earliest style bust is very similar to his father Constantius.
