    Description

Nero (AD 54-68). AE dupondius (28mm, 13.52 gm). Fine. Incused rim tooled around obverse and a pin or mount attached to the reverse - contemporarily transforming this humble dupondius into a work of wearable ancient art. Perhaps used as an ornament, fibula or mount advertising devotion to and adoration for the emperor. Perhaps the ancient equivalent of a modern campaign button.
