    Description

SYRIA. Antioch. Augustus (27 BC - AD 14). AR tetradrachm. Imitating types of Philip I Philadelphus. Dated Year 33 of the Caesarian era = 17/6 BC. Diademed head of Philip I right / Zeus seated left on throne, holding Nike and scepter; monogram to left; ΓΛ (date) in exergue. McAlee 27. HGC 9, 1360x. Rare. Somewhat coarse surfaces. NGC VF.

The date is partially off the flan and ΓΛ (year 33) is probably the most plausible reading. Another possibility would be EK (year 25), although this would be a variant of the date form KE shown in McAlee's corpus.
