Excellent Barbarous Denarius
Albinus Bruti f. (ca. 48 BC). AR imitative denarius (19mm, 5h).
NGC VF. Contemporary imitation of uncertain mint. IIITΛS (T
inverted), head of Pietas right, strands of hair falling down neck
/ ALBINVS•BRVTI•F, clasped hands before winged caduceus. Cf.
Crawford 450/2. Sydenham 942. Junia 25 and Postumia 10, all for
prototype.From the Bacchus Collection
An incredibly well-executed imitation in excellent style. The blundering of the obverse legend is surprising, considering the reverse is actually essentially correct, despite having more letters.
