Description

Anonymous (ca. 225-214/2 BC). AR didrachm or quadrigatus (25mm, 6.65 gm, 7h). NGC Choice XF 5/5 - 3/5, light scratches. Uncertain mint. Laureate janiform heads of the Dioscuri (?), with joined sideburns; dotted border / Jupiter, hurling thunderbolt with right hand, transverse scepter surmounted by lotus in left, in quadriga galloping right driven by Victory; ROMA incuse on raised tablet below. Crawford 28/3-30/1 (didrachms). Sydenham 64. Splendid detail with smooth, charcoal toning.
