    Description

Galerius, A.D. 305-311. AE follis minted at Antioch, A.D. 310. Laureate head right of Galerius/Genius standing left, holding cornucopiae and patera over altar; star above. RIC 133a. EF45 ICG.
"Follis" literally means bag or purse. While bronze coins circulated individually, they also were traded in sealed bags, certified by money-changers. The follis became the normally used AE or copper alloy unit during the late A.D. 3rd and early 4th centuries.
From the Collection of Dr. Joseph M. Seventko, Ex: CNA, XIV 3/20/91 Lot 993.
