    Description

Theodosius II, A.D. 402-450. AV tremissis minted at Constantinople, October A.D. 425-429. Diademed, cuirassed and draped bust right of Theodosius II/Victory advancing right, head left, holding wreath and globus cruciger; in lower right field, star. 1.49 g. RIC 249 [as Scarce], Hahn 45. MS62 ICG.
My estimates are made by evaluating the coin, regardless of the assigned third-party grade. The numismatic market has become more sophisticated, and collectors are paying a premium for select, flashy coins, whether they are U.S., world or ancient. "Buy the coin, not the plastic" is excellent advice. As previously mentioned, there are so many parameters, like style, strike, quality of metal, etc., to vary the value of a hammer-struck coin, that assessing all these factors is imperative.
