Bao Dai gold "Kim Bài" Decoration Set ND (1936) AU, S&H-Unl. 48x93mm. 35.83gm. Reading "Gift from Emperor Bao Dai to a Minister / Made under the Reign of Bao Dai." A thoroughly pleasing example of this tangerine-tinged presentation plaquette or "kim bài," where so few are ever encountered at auction, let alone in gold for important diplomatic figures as is the case here. A magnificent and eye-catching decoration dressed in an advanced patination hosting whimsical dragons and framed by a geometric border. Accompanied by additional presentation items to add further context and identification to this order, including a framed, ornate silk embroidery identifying Acting Resident-Superior Eugène Guillemain as the recipient, a lacquered and parcel-gilt scroll box, and a highly detailed, velvet-line repoussé silver box.
