    Description

    BYZANTINE EMPIRE. Silver chain. Ca. AD 700-1000.  This 36" (91 cm) chain is of a complex composite weave pattern, with broad flat circular links interspersed with round wire links wrapped around the joins. Might have been worn as a necklace or used to suspend a sacred vessel. Total weight: 85.2 grams. Condition: Intact with no repairs, light gray oxidation overall.
