    Description

GREEK. 'Tanagra figurine,' circa 300 BC. Stands 10.5" (27 cm) high atop 1" custom lucite base. Hellenistic polychrome terracotta draped female wears a calf-length hemation over a floor-length chiton. Her hair is done up in a "melon" coiffure and she stands in a characteristic pose with one arm drawn up under her garment and another at her hip. Surface retains pastel pink and aquamarine pigments along with white ground. Head (possibly from another figure?) expertly attached to body, otherwise largely intact with original colors.

From the Estate of Gloria and Melville B. Nimmer, Westwood, CA. Acquired from Astarte Galleries, London, 1986.

Special Note: This item will be available for viewing at our Beverly Hills office only.
