    Description

GREEK. Archaic-Hellenistic era, ca. 500-100 BC. Group of three terracotta votive figures and heads. Ranging from 2" to 6.25" (4-15.5 cm) tall, they depict: (1) an archaic standing kore, or young girl, wearing a polos headdress and long peplos, her hair in long braids falling over her shoulders and her arms extended in characteristic fashion, (2) a Hellenistic half-length bust of Helios, with his distinctive radiate crown, wearing a chiton clasped at the shoulders and a charioteer's jerkin around his midriff, and (3) a Hellenistic female votive head with indistinct features, possibly Ptolemaic ca. 200-100 BC. All mounted on custom black bases. All displaying varying amounts of surface erosion, but basically intact with no restoration other than mounting.

From the Estate of Gloria and Melville B. Nimmer, Westwood, CA. Acquired from Astarte Gallery, London, 1983-1985.
