Description

La Rioja gold 8 Escudos General Rosas 1842R, Uniformed bust of General Rosas left/Arms within wreath with date below, KM14, Fr-10, XF40 NGC, lightly toned with considerable original mint luster, mild adjustment marks on the reverse. Struck under the authority of General Juan Manuel de Rosas, leader of the Argentine Confederation. Although 5 pieces have appeared at auction since 2006, four of these were the same coin, the Eliasberg example, which was severely damaged on the obverse. The other example offered was the Millennia Collection specimen sold by Ira and Larry Goldberg in 2008. Extremely rare, with possibly only five pieces known outside of museums, and institutions, and one of the most historically compelling issues of the Argentine, and South American, series.
