    1861 Assay Commission, Julian AC-2

    1861 Assay Commission Medal. MS64 Brown Uncertified. Julian AC-2, R.5. Copper, 33.2 mm., 304.0 grains. A bust of Liberty faces right with hair bound by a wreath, and LIBERTY inscribed on a scroll along the base. Around, MINT OF THE UNITED STATES, and below, PHILADELPHIA. The reverse has a wreath of laurel around ANNUAL ASSAY 1861 on three lines. Pleasing surfaces with chestnut-brown color. The only identifying mark of any significance is a small surface depression below the M of MINT.
