Signed 1929 Assay Commission Medal, Julian AC-73

1929 Assay Commission Medal. AU50 Uncertified. Julian AC-73, R.4. Bronze, 50.9 mm., 922.9 grains. A signed medal with the name of commission member S.R. Earl engraved on the edge. The obverse design is the same used in the previous year. The central reverse depicts the first U.S. Mint in a small central space with PHILADELPHIA in small letters below. JR SINNOCK signed the medal in still smaller letters at the lower left of the central area. Just outside is the interior lettering THE FIRST MINT ERECTED 1792 AND THE FIRST PUBLIC BUILDING AUTHORIZED BY THE CONGRESS OF THE UNITED STATES. Along the border is the outer legend MINT OF THE UNITED STATES ANNUAL ASSAY 1929. Struck in yellow-bronze with reddish-brown toning on the obverse and olive color on the reverse. A few splashes of darker color are evident on the obverse of this medal. This is a signed medal to Commissioner S.R. Earl, who was incorrectly identified by Pessolano-Filos as S.R. Early.
