Description

Victoria gold 1/2 Sovereign 1859-SYDNEY MS61 NGC, Sydney mint, KM3, Marsh-384 (S). From the third year of issue of the Type II 1/2 Sovereigns minted in Sydney, with the original production reaching 341,000 pieces. Despite the mintage sounding rather sizeable, this date has proven to be a tough one to find in higher grades, with discoveries from hoards being virtually non-existent. The example at hand is currently the sole finest and the only Mint State representative in the NGC census, matched by only one equally-graded coin in the PCGS population. Pale-gold in color with a hint of lime undertone owing to the inherent silver in the alloy, this remarkable piece is gorgeously lustrous throughout. An elevated visual appeal beyond the assigned technical grade goes far above the typical Australian early 1/2 Sovereigns available on the marketplace.
