Description

Ferdinand I gold "Siege of Vienna " Klippe Ducat 1529 PCGS Genuine, Vienna mint, Fr-22. 3.43gm. Struck by mintmaster Thomas Beheim during the 19-day siege of Vienna by Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent's Ottoman forces. Gold from locations around Vienna, including church property, was confiscated and struck as coinage to pay the mercenary troops hired to protect the city. This remarkable piece of history still retains much detail from the original strike and is without any obvious repair marks, which are commonly found on the type.
