Description

Franz Joseph I silver Proof "Mt. Raxalpe Inn" Medallic Taler 1877 PR64 Cameo NGC, Vienna mint, KM-XM9, Dav-30, J-371. Struck for the opening of the Carl-Ludwig House in the Rax (Alpine mountain range); Archduke Carl Ludwig, the younger brother of Franz Joseph I, is pictured on the obverse. The silver issue presented here originates from a mintage of only 100; as a result, these Medallic pieces are extraordinarily popular and bring surprisingly large sums of money. None have crossed the auction block with Heritage before now since 2019, so availability is also a major factor for collectors. This radiant, near-Gem Proof piece is thoroughly attractive, exhibiting steel toned expanses and frosted, icy devices. We anticipate the collector response for such a quality example of this coveted type will be significant.
