Austria: Maria Theresa Taler 1760 MS66 NGC,...
Description
Maria Theresa Taler 1760 MS66 NGC, Hall mint, KM1816, Dav-1121, Voglhuber-274. One of the most recognizable Austrian Taler types, featuring a younger portrait of the iconic Maria Theresia, immortalized in numismatics by her 1780 Taler and centuries of subsequent recreations. Not a particularly common series, this Hall produced portrait variety was produced from 1754 until 1765, but the specimen on offer is a conditional outlier of grand proportions. Out of all Talers bearing a Maria Theresa portrait (non-restrike of course), no matter the date or country, to sell with Heritage up until this point, the highest graded example was an MS64. This MS66 is far and away the nicest NGC certified specimen of the series; covered in classic cabinet-style patination, meticulously rendered portrait detail for a type that often exhibits softness in that area, and surfaces that show only the slightest signs of disturbance, many of which require magnification to assess. A dream coin for enthusiasts of the only sole-governing female Hapsburg monarch.Metal: Silver
