Immaculate Tower in the Storm Gold 8 Ducats
Salzburg. Wolf Dietrich Von Raitenau (1587-1612) gold 8 Ducats 1594, Tower in storm with waves, wind, and hail, with the date / St. Rudbertus and St. Virgilius supporting an oval shield, Fr-674 Probszt 715, MS63 NGC. Bright gold color, with fully lustrous, minimally marked surfaces. Wolf Dietrich Von Raitenau was the Archbishop of Salzburg from 1587-1612. He was highly educated, a great art collector and builder. He is highly responsible for the Baroque appearance of Salzburg. He died at the hands of his nephew in 1612. This design was thought to offer protection to the city from the "Storm of War." An important gold rarity, with a wonderful design.Metal: Gold
