Near-Choice Insurrection 3 Florins

Insurrection 3 Florins 1790 MS62 NGC, Brussels mint, KM50, Dav-1285, Vanhoudt-870, Delm-395. A historically rich and high quality 3 Florins, struck during a pivotal point in the Habsburg rule. This piece is graded an a attractive near-Choice assignment, allowing for this crown-sized piece is be easily admired.

Struck immediately after the insurrection against Habsburg rule, often referred to as the Brabant Revolution. The revolt was precipitated by changes made by Joseph II in the 1780s that were perceived as being anti-Catholic. The design selected for this coinage is interesting in that the obverse bears uncanny resemblance to the Calvinist issues coming out of Zurich about the same time this piece was struck.
