Description

Cat Cay Club nickel-plated One Key Token ND (c.1967) AU58 PCGS, Rulau-BMS6, Lyall-12. Piedfort. Nickel plated variety. Displaying a cat standing on key, and an old water tower above value.

North Cat Cay is a small private island in the Bahamas about 10 miles south of Bimini. Once a pit stop for pirates, the island became a private club in 1935 after purchase by Louis Wasey, with a brief stint as a British and Allied paramilitary base during World War II. Frequented by global elites such as Edward VIII (Duke of Winsor) and President Nixon, the island remains a private members-owned club and an official port of entry for the Bahamas. The tokens were introduced in 1946 and designed by Wasey's daughter Jane. They were valued at a U.S. Dollar, 50 Cents, and 25 Cents, primarily used for gaming and as souvenirs.
