Description

1896-S Barber Dime, MS65
Conditionally Rare Semikey Issue
Ex: Gene Gardner

1896-S 10C MS65 PCGS. CAC. The 1896-S (575,056 coins struck) boasts a lower mintage than its New Orleans Mint counterpart yet tends to take a back seat to the more famous 1896-O, which David Lawrence describes as a "magical date." In reality, this issue is only marginally more available overall, and top-notch Gems may prove equally challenging to locate. The design definition on this Gem S-mint Barber dime is razor-sharp, and the eye appeal is every bit as strong. The obverse shows slate-gray centers with golden-russet edge toning, while the reverse exhibits mixed lilac, gold, and blue-green patina. Population: 13 in 65, 10 finer. CAC: 3 in 65, 4 finer (11/23).
