Description

Gem 1898-O Barber Dime
A Little-Saved New Orleans Issue

1898-O 10C MS65 PCGS. The 1898-O had a mintage of 2.1 million pieces, but it is notably scarcer than the production figures suggest. David and John Feigenbaum stated in their 1999 book on Barber coinage that the 1898-O was not extensively saved because "the coins were produced and distributed in a poor part of the country (at the turn of the century)." This piece has rich, satiny mint luster beneath multiple layers of blue, gray, and rose-colored toning. The surfaces are exceptionally clean, and the striking details are strong except at the forefront of Liberty's hair curls. Population: 6 in 65, 6 finer (4/09).
